Many thanks to everyone who attended "Little Red Robin Hood" this weekend--we hope you had as much fun as we did! Stay tuned for the community theater musical production of "Mary Poppins" next month! Rehearsals are approaching the halfway point and we're getting very excited to show off all our hard work on July 28, 29, and 30!
As you've probably noticed, St. James Community Theater productions take a lot of time and energy to build from the ground up. We love to tap into our local talent for both cast and crew, but staging a show from start to finish also requires funding. Ticket sales and regional arts grants help cover some of the costs of production, but we are particularly grateful to the generous donors right here in our community who give money to support our mission and ensure that we can continue producing quality theater year after year.
Curious about how your donation would be put to use for St. James Community Theater? A typical show budgets for everything from costume rentals to set building materials, but the steepest costs are fees to the company which holds licensing rights to a play. Scripts and music are rentals due to copyright laws, and when added to the royalty fees to stage each performance, the rights to put on a musical in a small community like ours run between $1,000-$1,500. Additional production expenses include director and accompanist salaries, as well as advertising costs.
Donations also help to fund larger projects to improve your overall theater-going experience. In past years, we've updated lighting equipment, and at present, we're researching wireless microphones to be purchased for use in the Little Theater. St. James Community Theater also provides scholarships every year to two deserving graduating seniors.
Contributions can be made at any time with checks made payable to "St. James Community Theater" and mailed or delivered to the Community Education office at Armstrong School (P.O. Box 509). If you donate before July 26th, we'd love to list your name in the program for "Mary Poppins" to show our gratitude! The Daddy Warbucks Award is given to the highest gift each year and the name of the donor will be placed on the plaque on display at the Little Theater. Thank you kindly for your continued support--we couldn't do it without you!
